New at Koastal: Video Newsletter and 3 New Boards

Happy New Year!

This year we will be introducing our newsletter with a video version as well as the text version. The first few might be a little raw because we are still working out the production side of it. So, if you have any input about how we can make it better or more entertaining please let us know. We are open to any suggestions for this new approach to the newsletter.

Koastal has developed 3 new boards which will be added to the line in early spring. One board is a downhill drop through speed board. The other two boards are very aggressive downhill carving boards. Keep an eye out for the sample photos coming soon.

All 4 The Kids

Koastal will be donating a board along with some shirts and hats for this event held by “All 4 The Kids”. Please help them out in any way you can. Every little bit helps.

All 4 The Kids will be joining forces with Drop in the Bucket in 2010. The initiative is providing clean water access (wells) in hard to reach areas of Sub-Saharan Africa. The goal is to raise enough for three wells, which can be very attainable with your support.

Please buy your tickets ASAP and help us change some lives while also having a great time. Check out www.all4thekids.org for details and to purchase your tickets (tickets will be $79 until March and then the price will go up, so buy them now!) Also if you have a donation that can be used for a silent auction or raffle please let us know.

Koastal Videos

The individual Koastal board videos are still filming and the production on the 15 minute Koastal Video is still going great and should be done by Spring/Summer.

Katin Pro/AM

Founded in 1977 by Nancy Katin as a camaraderie-driven team event, the Katin Pro/AM Team Challenge boasts a rich and memorable history, with a roster of winners that includes world champions Shaun Tomson, Tom Curren, Martin Potter, Sunny Garcia and Kelly Slater.

In its early days, the Katin Team Challenge was a special event that lured the world’s elite surfers – Mark Richards, Mark Occhilupo, Joey Buran, Michael Ho and Larry Bertlemann – among others. But true to Nancy’s dream, the event also drew hot young kids from surf towns in California, Hawaii and Florida to compete alongside their heroes. Some of these up-and- comers – Kelly Slater, Shane Beschen, Rob Machado, Pat O’Connell, Chris Brown, Peter Mel and many more – would go on to standout careers. The Katin Team Challenge ran uninterrupted from 1977 to 1989, then from 1992 to 1998.

Koastal had a 4 man team at the Katin Pro/Am this year at Huntington Beach, California. The contest window was from Jan. 12th – 17th. They decided to start on the 14th and that day was a big day for Huntington. Sets were coming in overhead and walled out. The current was so strong the contestants had to run ½ mile down the beach before jumping in the water and by the time their heat started they were already being sucked into the pier and just struggling to paddle out to the break. It seemed as if you were able to just catch a wave you made it to the next round. But overall the Katin Pro/Amis always a fun contest for our Koastal team riders. The riders who gave it their best were: Chris Love, Matt Howe, Dave Lovato, and Paul Pugliesi. You can get all the results at http://www.katinproam.com/live/

Thank You

Koastal had a great year in 2009. We keep growing with the help of all of you and we want to thank everyone for your continued support. We look forward to a great year!

Thank You,

The Crew at Koastal
